Read Matthew 2, Luke 2
All 66 books revolve around one person—Jesus Christ—and two events: His first coming to deal with sin and His second coming to reign. Matthew, Mark and Luke give a three-camera, “synoptic” view of that first coming. Each writer selects material to defend a theological claim about Jesus rather than to craft a complete biography. Matthew shows the promised King, Mark the obedient Servant, and Luke the perfect Man whose compassion reaches the margins. Together they hurry the reader to the climactic cross and resurrection—the scarlet thread that runs through the whole Bible.
“The New is in the Old contained; the Old is in the New explained.”
Heart Check
- Which portrait of Jesus (King, Servant, Son of Man) feels most real to me right now—and which feels distant or ignored?
- When I study Scripture, am I chasing information or inviting the Spirit to make my heart “burn within” like the two on the Emmaus road?
- Where might I be waiting to be served instead of taking the towel and basin with Jesus?
- How do I respond to the marginalized people in my path—more like the compassionate Doctor Luke shows, or more like the crowd that passes by?
