Read Malachi 1,2,3,4

When God’s people grow spiritually apathetic, He confronts us in the three arenas that most reveal our hearts—our worship, our marriages, and our wallets—and calls us to renewed devotion.

Malachi is the final prophetic voice of the Old Testament. A century after the temple and Jerusalem’s walls were rebuilt, Judah had slipped into complacency. Through eight sarcastic questions the people hurl back at Him, the Lord exposes their spiritual apathy and moral laziness. Malachi records almost no commentary of his own; 47 of the book’s 55 verses are God speaking directly. The Lord’s indictments cluster around three areas: ministry (their vertical worship), marriage (their casual divorces), and money (their withholding of tithes). Each challenge still speaks powerfully to believers today.

Today we wrap up the Old Testament. Remember in our reading from today to tomorrow that God is silent for 400 years.
