Too Busy to Pray?

There are mornings…

Wake up late, in a rush because I must get out the door to make the appointment- can’t find my keys, okay, found them, where’s my cell? Oh, I’m talking on it. (Yes really, I’ve done it!)

Frustration, anxiousness, and overwhelming busyness have become normal in our culture.

Many of us don’t have a quality prayer life because we don’t plan to have a prayer life at all.

If you’re planning a trip, you don’t just decide to go out of the blue, you save money and set a schedule. Rarely can it just happen with no notice.

Oswald Chambers writes, “Remember, no one has time to pray, we have to take time from other things that are valuable in order to understand how necessary prayer is. The thing that acts like thorns and stings in our personal lives will go away instantly when we pray; we won’t feel the smart anymore, because we have God’s point of view about them. Prayer means we get into God’s point of view of other people.”

Our walk with God is not based on emotions- to reach out only when we’re moved to pray or reminded to be obedient. We commit to be in the Word daily, we draw close to Him in worship, we INTENTIONALLY talk to Him.

We chose to meet with our church as He tells us to. When we are in His will he may bless us with an emotional response… to feel the worship or the power of the Holy Spirit moving us.

Or He may not.

Sometimes my obedience is grudgingly done. Just because I’m supposed to. I know with part of my thoughts, that I’m acting like a toddler, I don’t wanna.

Praise God, he has a way of redirecting my thoughts to align with His, of rewarding my obedience with the desire after the fact.

All I know is that the more time you spend with Him the more you’re satisfied. He grants you the desires of your heart, because the closer you become the more your desires align with His. Ps 37:4

The first fruits belong to God. “Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.” Proverbs 3:9 also Exodus 23:19,Liv.23:10 Firstfruits are the first portion, the best quality, showing trust and your priority.

Let us give Him the first fruits of our day, as we open our eyes and before we rush into the busyness of our world. Even if we awaken to a crying baby or a blaring alarm declaring we started our day late; our prayers can rise to Him, thanking Him for our day and asking for direction through it.

Sometimes it may be only a few moments, but with some planning it could become the delight of your day!

Here is the poem I read that started this whole thought process:

I got up early one morning and rushed into the day; I had so much to do that I didn’t have time to pray. Problems just tumbled about me, and heavier came each task. “Why doesn’t God help me?” I wondered. He answered. “You didn’t ask.” I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on, gray and bleak; I wondered why God didn’t show me. He said, “But you didn’t seek”. I tried to come into God’s presence; I used all my keys at the lock. God gently and lovingly chided. “My child you didn’t knock.” I awoke early this morning, and paused before entering the day, I had so much to accomplish that I had to take the time to pray. ‘Anonymous’
