Recovery Wednesday

STEP 10: We continue to take personal inventory, and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

Be sure to reserve a daily time with God for self examination, scripture, and prayer in order to know God and His will for our lives and to gain the power to follow His will- Principle 7 in Celebrate Recovery.

Reading the Bible regularly is essential to our success with the Twelve Steps.

Philippians 4:9- “Keep putting into practice all you have learned and received from me – everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.”

As the process evolves, we notice that our way of thinking changes. We gain more patience and understanding. Our anger and negative reactions soften, and we find a peace within us that we haven’t felt in a very long time. Keep growing in your faith and recovery by exploring scripture and get involved in Bible studies. A daily devotional specific to recovery helps us to stay in the word and strengthens us.

The Life Recovery Devotional tells us how James shows us that God’s Word should be like a spiritual mirror in our lives. He said in James 1:22-25:

“Don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.”

We can use this verse to support the importance of doing routine personal inventories. Our personal inventories can change over time, but we need to take action if there’s a problem that we see. We should address that problem right away before it slips our mind. Don’t let problems accumulate that may lead to a fall.

Periodically keep a journal to write out your daily inventory, the good and the bad. Look for any negative patterns or repeated issues. Catch any problems that may be building and share them with a trusted friend or sponsor. Take accountability and promptly make amends for any wrong doings.

We’ve come a long way in the Twelve Step journey. Stay strong by practicing what we’ve learned and keep growing in our faith to strengthen our walk with our Lord and in our recovery.

Until next week,

Robin
