There will be a remnant left of pagan people that the Israelites will have to continue to contend with. Moses warns them not to worship what they worship or practice what they practice or live the way they live. Be transformed, not conformed.
This is also a New Testament church principle. Romans 12:2. We also live in a fallen world, surrounded by sin and ungodly influences. Be transformed. Be aware of the influence, but don’t give into the influence.
What was their way of worship?
- Their way was the worship of creation rather than the creator.
- Their way of worship included open fertility rituals with outdoor altars for sex.
- Their way of worship included the sacrifice of children.
How many ways, how many times, on how many days, is our world, our culture, consistently trying to squeeze us into its mold and its pattern? It will never relent. We are spiraling into sinful decay.
The statistics that Pastor Gary shares are from 2013. Think about our world today.
We can’t expect to avoid the influences, they’re all around us. We are to be in the world, not of the world. We are to be salt and light in the world. Be insulated in the Lord. Do not let the world recruit you.
Get the mind of God. Philippians 2:5. Ephesians 4:22.
Wherever there is a sharp, distinct contrast, between the ideology of our culture and the direction of our society, and that of God, we always must choose God and His word.
