Read Leviticus 5,6,7

Pastor Gary is going to walk us through how the sacrificial system points to Jesus.

The Levites represent God to man and man to God. When Jesus comes, He fulfills this. The priests primary duties helped the people to worship and fellowship with God. This is a book about people being unclean and sinful before God. People need an avenue to be made clean and holy before God.

Key verse Leviticus 17:11

Sacrifices give them a means to be provisionally and positionally righteous before God. It’s a pouring out of an innocent life in exchange for the guilty worshiper. This is the great exchange. A substitution.

Why don’t they sacrifice still today?

Hebrews 9:22
Leviticus points to Jesus, the perfect and permanent solution to the sin problem.

Hebrews 10:14
God wants the focus to go from the system to the Savior.

God sets up this system in anticipation that people won’t be able to live up to the letter of His law.

1 Peter 1:20
Revelation 13:8

The law will either drive you to legalism or it will lead you to Christ. Our motivation shifts from obeying the law to gain God’s favor to a motivation to honor Him.

The moral obligation is still intact. God gives us His favor in Jesus but we keep His commandments to honor Him.

1 John 5:3

Following Christ must cost us something. Jesus is sacrificed for our sins. We are active participants. We all participated in slaughtering Jesus. Following Him requires action, not just belief.

Live for Jesus.
