Read Leviticus 1,2,3 4
Leviticus may not be your favorite book. Don’t lose focus. Keep at it. It matters. All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable. Our additional sermons may take on a different schedule from your daily reading. Look for the applications in your life as we walk through this book.

Pastor Skip teaches us that ancient Jews started training their children in the law by using the book of Leviticus. Why?

The New Testament quotes Leviticus 100 times. You will not understand the book of Hebrews without a working knowledge of Leviticus.

Chapters 1-17 teach the way to God through sacrifice.
Chapters 18-27 teach that it’s about walking with God through sanctification.

Sacrifice is an event. Sanctification is a process. This is our testimony. The major issue is about how to get close to God and how to stay close to God. Being close to God is dangerous because God is holy. The solution is sacrifices and someone offering sacrifices and purity laws.

Leviticus speaks more about holiness than any other book of the Bible. Along with blood, priests and sacrifices. Blood is mentioned 88 times. It’s meant to teach us the lesson that sin is awful and destructive. It destroys life. The wages of sin is death. We have a sin problem. Confessing our sin means we agree with God about it. If you confess and forsake your sin, you will find mercy. If you call sin anything other than what it is, it will do you no good.

Sacrifices are a visual expression. Sacrifices speak of better things.

A sin is different than a trespass. A trespass is deliberate.

Only a priest could have approached God for you. Jesus is our great High Priest. He is the sacrifice as well as the one who offers the sacrifice.

Romans 12, Paul tells us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God which is your reasonable service. Life takes on a whole new level when you have the Holy Spirit dwell in you and through you to other people. God works through us because it gives Him more glory.

Priests are called to a higher standard. Those who teach the word are called to a higher standard. The worship that God accepts is the worship that God prescribes.

How can I be clean before God? Unclean appears more than 100 times. All of your life is to be lived under the eye of God. God wants us to be different. Set apart.

The Day of Atonement is a special day when sin is dealt with. It is a mournful day. The scape host is the hope of the new covenant. Jeremiah 31 anticipates a time in the future where it won’t be the covenant of the law anymore. Jesus, our scape goat, would take the sins away once and for all.

The purpose of the law is NOT to show us how approachable God is but exactly the opposite. How unapproachable God is.

If you don’t approach God with blood, what do you approach Him with? Works? The gospel is trusting your way to God. Believe in the slain Lamb. Trust in Jesus. He’ll take your sin away. It’s not about your works. It’s about what He has done.

What is sanctification? It is to be holy, set apart, to be used for God’s purpose and glory. Holiness is your key to happiness. Believe different from the world.

Another way to look at being holy is to be whole, complete, mature, well rounded.

The first step to holiness is repentance.

Rejoice before the Lord. Worship isn’t an obligation.

Leviticus ends with heartfelt worship. When you dedicate something to God, you don’t have to do it, you want to do it. Our worship is voluntary. God wants us to want to worship Him.
