Read Exodus 19,20,21
Pastor Skip walks us through the rest of Exodus from 30,000 feet. The emphasis changes from narration to legislation. Jews look back and rely upon the law. God’s revelation is their identification.
Remember the four stages of the book of Exodus.
-domination 1-12
-liberation 13-18
-revelation 19-31
Identification 32-40
The people are miraculously dependent on God in the desert.
God sees us as a treasure. Do you see yourself like God sees you? The worth of an object is what someone is willing to pay for that object. God sent His son for you.
The people claim to be all in for God. It’s a wonderful thing to say. It’s a difficult thing to do. We don’t have the capacity to keep the law. The law points us to the Savior. The covenant of grace. God demonstrates His perfect and holy character.
Moses cannot see God but he can hear Him. God will speak to you in a still small voice and through His Word.
The person of Jesus fulfills the law. The law starts with the ten commandments. God wants supreme devotion to Him and sincere affection for others.
There are two tablets because there are two parts of the law. The vertical- our relationship with God and the horizontal- our relationship with others.
The law doesn’t just deal with the outward actions but the inward attitudes of the heart.
The highest form of artistic expression is to worship the Lord. Worship in spirit and truth.
We’ll see the social laws, the moral laws and the spiritual laws. Capital punishment is articulated. The Jewish nation saw capital punishment and murder as two different things. They saw it as righteously, administered, judicial execution. The law is exact retribution so that the punishment for the crime should match the crime. God does this to limit vengeance.
We learn that God wants to bring His people together in fellowship. Feasts of Unleavened Bread, Harvest, In gathering, Passover, Pentecost, Tabernacles.
The only feast with leavened bread is Pentecost.
We are given the pattern for constructing the tabernacle and all the articles in it. The tabernacle is a sanctuary for God to dwell. There is only one narrow entrance to the tabernacle and you would enter from the east through the tribe of Judah.
The tabernacle to New Testament believers is a picture of Christ. The tabernacle is a model of heaven.
There are two chapters in the Bible that deal with creation. There are fifty chapters for the tabernacle.
We’re taught what the priest were meant to wear and do in their ministry. We are all in ministry. Start seeing what you do as the call of God on your life.
It took one night to take Israel out of Egypt. It took forty years to take Egypt out of Israel. It is amazing the lame excuses for stupid behavior. What excuses do you have for not accepting Christ? Or for submitting to Him as Lord?
Moses wants to see God’s glory. You will never be satisfied til you see the Lord face to face. Our worship here is never meant to satisfy us.
The glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. The house of worship is at the center of the nation. God is to be at the center of the nation.
The message to us from Exodus is that God wants to redeem you and be at the center of your life.
John 1:1
Everyone has had a Genesis. Have you had an Exodus?
