Read Job 29,30,31
Listen to the sermon by Pastor Gary Hamrick.
When surveyed, most people ask… Why is there pain and suffering in the world and why would God allow it?
Pastor Gary reminds us that many will then question the existence of God. But then challenges us to ask… What if evil exists apart from God? What if man’s rebellion against God opened a door to all things in our world that were not intended to be here? What if, because we live in this world, we are affected because of it? What if God does exist and He is the one to help us through our suffering?
Your suffering may cause you to question the goodness of God.
Sometimes goodness can appear as being unkind. Our lack of understanding should not cause us to believe in the lack of God’s goodness. This side of heaven there are some things that will never make sense.
He goes on to show us that Job makes 19 “if” statements trying to understand the why. Job appeals to God. God never addresses Job’s suffering. God goes on to ask 77 rhetorical questions in the coming chapters about who God is and how great He is. Basically God “schools” Job.
We cannot control what is uncontrollable. We must trust God. We must trust that God is not absent or silent. In perspective, our suffering is small compared to God’s greatness. This doesn’t simplify your suffering.
“If God was small enough for us to understand, He wouldn’t be big enough for us to worship.”
Fix your eyes on Jesus.
