Read Job 24,25,26,27,28

Listen to the sermon by Pastor David Guzik

We are finally getting to the end of Job’s friend’s opinions about why he is suffering. They think they know but as we study through, we can see how they have it so wrong. How frustrating for Job. We must ask, how are his friends helping him? Job’s friends are so concerned about being right that they completely lose sight of helping Job. Sometimes we can be so right that we are completely in the wrong. We can be right in principle and wrong in application. Boy, does this just smack me upside the head. I ask myself, is this a sin issue? Do I misrepresent God because I think I know what is right and what He is doing? Gives me pause for sure.

Job understands the greatness of God but feels He is far from Him. We can know the greatness of God without completely understanding His power.

Job is so real. He cries out in faith but also wishes he was dead. I have been there. Agony creates contradictions.

Job feels like God is not there or listening to his cries. That is a lonely place to be. Especially if you feel like those around you don’t understand.

Job agrees that judgement awaits the wicked. He is also not admitting to guilt.

Job then seeks to understand wisdom and its source. We can work so hard to pursue things of this world. Do we put forth the same effort to find wisdom?

It’s easier for us to pursue wisdom than Job, we have the Bible. Job did not. Yet he understands that the source of wisdom is God. The fear of the Lord is wisdom. This is essential for a right relationship with God.

Be careful where you look for wisdom.
