Recovery Wednesday
Step 6:
We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
God wants us to make changes in our life, we need to humbly ask Him to remove our character defects and guide us to change.
James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.
How do we release control and let God change us? We need to fill the void that we’ve previously filled with substances, obsessions, and bad habits. Keeping ourselves busy with positive activities, surrounding ourselves with positive people, and filling our mind with the wisdom of scripture.
All scripture can be applied to today. Often it’s hard to understand what many accounts of the Bible can mean. Look into a Bible App, devotional, or even Google how to apply the scripture to today. Many Bible Apps and devotionals offer topics that apply to you for easy access to applicable scripture. One that I recommend is the YouVersion Bible App.
Sometimes it’s difficult for us to see the positive changes that God is making in our lives. It doesn’t happen overnight and the evolution can be slow. Trust the process.
Jeremiah 40 offers powerful wisdom for navigating life after a crisis or sudden transformation. When our life is disrupted, the path forward is to focus on what we can control and cultivate growth from where we’re at. As many recovery groups say:
One day at a time.
Celebrate Recovery tells us that the 12-steps are not quick fixes. We need to allow time for God to work in our life. It takes time to find healing. Give yourself some grace, we’ve spent a long time with our hurts, habits, compulsions, and obsessions.
Lamentations 3:19-22
I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassion never fail.
Take some time with God this week, reflecting on this step and let Him guide you.
