Welcome to Recovery Wednesday!!
We’re moving on to Step 5!
‘We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrong doings’.
James 5:16- Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
Whew! Step 4 took alot of work to admit to ourselves our wrong doings. Now we have the information and an honest account of our past to ask God for forgiveness.
God already knows all of our resentment, shortcomings and sins. Now is the time to admit them to him! We cannot find peace and serenity if we continue to blame ourselves and others. Our past has prevented honest relationships with others. Once we confess, we receive God’s complete and perfect forgiveness. Sharing these accounts with a trusted person, we will experience further healing. This lifts a load from our shoulders and hearts that we’ve carried for a long time.
Proverbs 28:13- Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
1 John 1:9- If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousnes.
Accepting God’s forgiveness helps us gain the confidence to look others in the eyes, removing the shame of our past. We can now realize that our past actions are now seen in a new light. We are ready to exchange our shortcomings for humility.
Celebrate Recovery tells us that
once Step 5 is completed, four areas of your life will begin to improve. You will be able to face the truth, ease the pain, stop the blame, and start accepting God’s forgiveness. It doesn’t magically happen, you’re putting in the work, and with our Lord’s guidance, to make the changes. It’s a continuous work in progress.
Psalms 51:10-12 – Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Step 5 is one of the most freeing experiences of your life! Once shared, a weight is lifted and your eyes open to a whole new level of knowing our Healer, Jesus Christ.
