Once again we are looking at the scriptures to discover the ‘names’ of Jesus.
This week we will be in Matthew 15.
You may have noticed that we ‘skipped’ Matthew 13

I didn’t find a specific name for
Jesus there, however, I hope you will check it out for yourself, because I could be wrong!!!
Matthew 15 discusses the “Traditions and Commandments” that were followed by the Jews during this time, and many religious leaders had begun to question the authority of ‘who Jesus is”….
Matthew 15:1 -2 says ~
“Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said “why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.” Can you imagine even asking that question???
The men who are questioning Jesus were the Pharisees and Scribes. These men were the Jewish leaders, and they were known for their strict adherence to the Mosaic Law. They were basically the ‘religious elite’ of the day.
These men were more concerned with ‘following the rules’, than following God with pure hearts. They were supposed to KNOW GOD and help others know Him and follow His ways, instead they ‘added’ to God’s laws, making it a burden. Their religion was NOT true worship of God; rather it was rooted in a prideful heart.
In Matthew 15 we read that the Pharisees and the Scribes are arguing with Jesus, trying to prove that Jesus was NOT GOD. Jesus calls the people to meet with Him so that He can explain to them how ‘wrong’ these ‘religious leaders’ are regarding God.
In verses 21-28 we read about Jesus healing the Canaanite Woman’s daughter. He questions her, and at first is not going to help her, however, in verse 27 she convinces Him…resulting in Jesus healing the woman’s daughter.
What changed His mind? Verse 22 she calls calls upon Him and says “O, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.” Remember at that time, Jesus’ ministry was to ‘the people of Israel”, not to the Gentiles. She was considered an unbeliever, however, once she persisted and addressed Him as Lord, Son of David, He realized her true belief.
We see the name of Jesus – Son of David…once again.
