Today we are looking at JEHOVAH SHALOM ~ The LORD is Peace.
“It has been estimated that out of 3530 years of recorded history, there were 286 years of peace, 14,351 of war and 3.64 billion people have been killed. More than 8000 “peace’ treaties were made and broken. “Preceptaustin.org”
WOW!!
How can one find PEACE in a world filled with enmity, strife and anxiety?
JEHOVAH SHALOM is the ONLY ANSWER.
When you think of the word PEACE ~ what is brought to your mind? If you “google” the word you will find pages and pages of “concepts of peace”!
Thankfully Christ followers do not have to follow a “concept” of peace, because we have The Prince of Peace whom we can go to!
The first time we see God as Jehovah Shalom, we see it in the circumstance of a man (Gideon) in great fear. His peace is disturbed because of the circumstances prevailing in Israel at that time.
And then when he realizes he has seen God, he thinks he is going to die. His “theology” is unclear — “if God is for us, then why are we suffering”?
But God opens his eyes and he sees that the LORD is peace, the One Who will make Gideon a valiant warrior.
In days to come the LORD who is peace will allow Gideon to experience very distressing circumstances that can take away a man’s peace and yet Gideon will be able to remember that God is Jehovah Shalom.
Judges 6
The King James Version is said to use the word PEACE over 400 times!
JEHOVAH SHALOM is present in the Trinity ~ mark these places in your bible!!!!
GOD THE FATHER ~ Hebrews 13:20 tells us “Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep…”
(If you mark this verse in your bible I hope you noticed that there are TWO names of God used in this particular scripture!!)
GOD THE SON~ Isaiah 9:6 THE Prince of Peace…THE Prince Jehovah Shalom
“For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT ~ God offers us His peace through the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus tells His disciples this powerful truth about PRESENCE = PEACE.
John 14:25-27 Look up this verse and understand the words of Jesus, regarding the third person of The Trinity.
Many of us live in a state of ‘fear’ rather than a state of ‘peace’. I encourage you to look up the following verses and answer the questions.
Read Isaiah 26:3 (NASB)According to this verse HOW can we stay in “perfect peace”?
Define Steadfast ~
Are you “steadfast” in your mind about WHO is your peace?
Do you trust HIM with all things in your life?
If not….Re-read Isaiah 26:3 and decide today to have a STEADFAST mind and TRUST in Him!
Read Psalm 29:11 and 119:165 ~
WHAT is promised in these verses?
Read John 14:27. WHAT does Jesus give to us?
THIS IS OUR JEHOVAH SHALOM!
Know Him as your Peace. Come to Him. Rest in the One whom alone is the PERFECT PEACE; SHALOM.
Take shelter in the Prince of Peace, your
Lord, Jesus Christ.
