The past 5 weeks we have spent getting to Know Gods Names.
The next few weeks will be on getting to Know Gods Character.
In Week One we read that “Each name of God reveals one of His qualities or characteristics.”
His characteristics or attributes will be our focus for the rest of our mini study on God’s Names.
The three “omni” attributes of God characterize him as all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere present. Each of these involves the other two, and each provides a perspective on the all-embracing lordship of the true God.
The prefix omni means “all,” so the three divine attributes in our title can be paraphrased by saying that God is “all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere present.”
Omnipotence means that God is in total control of himself and his creation. It is maximal greatness, or perfection.
God is perfect, and therefore IS OMNIPOTENT.
Omniscience means that he is the ultimate criterion of truth and falsity, so that his ideas are always true.
God is all-knowing and therefore IS OMNISCIENT.
Omnipresence means that since God’s power and knowledge extend to all parts of his creation, he himself is present everywhere.
In every place in the universe God is present. He is not limited by space, and therefore IS OMNIPRESENT.
Together they define God’s lordship, and they yield a rich understanding of creation, providence, and salvation.
*(The words Omnipotence, Omniscience and Omnipresent are not found in scripture. These three attributes are affirmed throughout scripture, as we will discover)
OMNIPOTENCE
The starting point for understanding who God is, (from a human perspective) His Holiness. God’s holiness means that He is set apart from mankind, that He is something other than we are ~ He is perfection, without a hint of unrighteousness.
Gods Holiness refers to absolute moral purity.
Before anything else about God makes sense, we must understand that God is holy—without recognizing this uniqueness, none of His other qualities/attributes or His character make sense.
GOD IS HOLY and He cannot sin.
The verses in Isaiah 6:3 and Revelation 4:8 are typically the most “known” verses about God and His Holiness.
*Read Isaiah 6:1-7
In this passage, Isaiah was in the temple and permitted to see the Lord in some unspecified manner. The experience struck fear into him, because of the impurity of his own sins and the sins of the people.
Describe WHAT Isaiah saw in verses 1 & 2, and WHO was there.
AND… Describe WHERE and WHAT the Seraphim are doing.
In verse 3 WHO are speaking?
In verse 4 describe WHAT was happening when “the voice” called out.
WHO is speaking in verse 5, and WHY was he concerned?
In verse 6 & 7, WHAT happened?
If we would see Him today in that (high and lifted up) position, we would be delivered from low living. It would also deliver some folk from this easy familiarity that they seem to have with Jesus. They talk about Him as if He were a buddy and as if they could speak to Him in any way they please. My friend, you cannot rush into the presence of God. He doesn’t permit it. You come to the Father through Christ. This is the only way He can be approached. You can never come into the presence of the Father because of who you are.
You come into His presence because you are in Christ. The Lord Jesus made that very clear when He said, “No man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6. J, Vernon McGee
*Read Revelation 4:1-11 ~ Over 600 years after Isaiah lived, John heard the same testimony in heaven; “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty”
WHAT did John see and WHAT did he hear?
In verses 3-6 describe WHAT John saw.
What descriptions did John give to the “creatures”?
Write down Verse 8
In verses 9-11 describe WHAT is happening. (Obviously this is a scene in Heaven that is in the “future”. We are so blessed to be able to “catch a glimpse” of the scene that John was given!!
3. Look up Jeremiah 32:27 and write it down.

Look up the following verses about God’s Omnipotence and write down what the verse says He is Omnipotent over.
Isaiah 26:4-5
Isaiah 43:13
Daniel 4:35
Matthew 19:26
Luke 1:37
Revelation 19:6
Scripture affirms God’s omnipotence by saying that God does whatever he pleases. He is all-powerful and in control of Himself and His creation ~ ALL things.
