This week’s Saturday Spotlight is from Diane Branson.

As a young mother and a new Christian, my world revolved around my children, my husband, and our home. I found such joy in teaching Sunday School to the little ones—those precious 2- and 3-year-olds. Their hugs and unconditional love filled my heart, and I felt confident guiding them in faith.

But, life has a way of humbling us, and I quickly learned that every child, even the pastor’s son, could teach me something new.

As my children grew up and left home, I entered a new season—one filled with grandchildren and a renewed sense of purpose. Teaching Sunday School again to three-year-olds brought back that familiar warmth. I cherished every moment with my “baby grands,” soaking up their love and laughter.

With my own children grown, I finally had freedom—time for myself, for friends, for new adventures.

But life is full of surprises. Suddenly, we were raising a grandchild, and over the next ten years, two more grandchildren came in and out of our home. My newfound freedom vanished, and so did the carefree fun I’d begun to enjoy.

While I was grateful for the chance to pour love into my grandchildren, I realized something was missing.

That longing led me to bring women together for fellowship.

We, as women, need each other—to laugh, to lean on, to pray with, and to share life’s ups and downs. Out of this desire grew a passion for creating events where women could simply relax, laugh, and enjoy life—no strings attached, just a few hours of joy. Bunco nights, paint parties, teas, brunches… each gathering deepened my love for the women in my church and for those who hadn’t yet discovered the freedom of being a Christian woman.

I’ve learned that every woman has a story worth hearing. I treasure listening to these stories, knowing that together, we can find strength, laughter, and faith. We are better together.

You know, women’s ministry just felt like the perfect fit for me. I’d discovered this new passion and love for connecting with other women, and I wanted to share it.

When my grandson graduated from high school and went into the Army, I jumped right into women’s ministry and led the team for four years. Honestly, those years were such a blessing.

When my husband and I retired, we moved from Ridgecrest to Tehachapi. Then came 2020 to 2022—a time when so many of us felt isolated and alone. Once this time passed, I couldn’t wait to join the Women’s Ministry at Country Oaks Baptist Church. Bringing my energy to fun events for women brought the joy back into my life.

There’s something so special about gathering together, laughing, and just enjoying each other’s company.

Now, being part of COBC, I find myself once again in a leadership role—this time co-leading with my dear friend Carol. It’s amazing how God brings people into our lives right when we need them.

I love creating spaces where women can relax, connect, and just be themselves.

I’m excited that my role in Celebrate the Seasons will help women connect, support each other, and continue to grow in Christ.

We really are better together.
