Recovery Wednesday
Good Morning Sisters!!
Today, we’re going to talk about 12 step programs. There are many programs that can help with recovery. The ones that I am aware of and familiar with are Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Celebrate Recovery.
It’s my belief that ANYONE and EVERYONE could benefit from a 12 step program. A 12 step program not only benefits the addict, but it can help individuals with personal growth, emotional maturity and accountability.
The program emphasizes taking a good hard look at yourself, digging deep for self-reflection. The result is healthier relationships and a healthier way to process things.
The first time that I walked through a 12 step program was with Narcotics Anonymous. It was very hard for me because I was numb to my own feelings. I didn’t know myself and found it difficult to understand or answer the questions that were presented to me through the program. It took me a long time to complete the steps, and looking back, I just wanted to get it over with and move on with my life, without drugs.
As I matured in my life and my recovery, I’ve realized that it wasn’t about just getting it done. It’s about growth and a realization of who you are and why, so changes can be applied and the brokenness healed.
Years later, after I found our Lord, I revisited the steps and got to know myself better. My answers were honest and deep, as I made a conscious effort for self-reflection. With the Lord’s help, changes were made and true growth was happening in my life. Not just growth without drugs, but growth to heal the traumas that led to the drugs and bad choices.
The Lord has led me to pursue an opportunity to present a recovery program. Doors are opening as preparations and details are being discussed.
To prepare myself, I’m going to walk through the steps again, this time with the Celebrate Recovery program. I can’t wait to see the personal growth that I’ve achieved and to discover even more things about myself.
As I walk through this journey, I invite you to join me, here, every Wednesday. I’ll take you through each step and discuss what it means and how it can be applied to our lives and our walk with Jesus.
Prayer For Serenity
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time,
accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will;
so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen
